I particularly like this painting for the depiction of empire fashion and the sense of standing-in-the-room, watching the people communicate.

 

Every individual seems to have a story to tell.

There is just something about the beauty of tragedy in this painting. The last moments of life slipping away. The moment before her arms are going to relax and her body sink on the bottom of the lake, while her carefully collected flowers are going to surface the water. There exist many paintings of Ophelia from Shakespeares "Hamlet", but this one catches me all the time.
